Notes from a Personal Collection: Golden Signet Ring & the Infamous Year of 1931

I don’t know about y’all but these new ‘20s are hittin’ more like the old 1930s. So when I found this golden salute to 1931, I jumped on it. Exactly what happened in 1931? Let’s see, in the U.S., Hoover was president, The Great Depression had distinguished itself from your run-of-the-mill good depressions, the Dust Bowl was still kicking, and for my east coast and Chicago friends,* someone got killed and the Five Families were formed. Some say that if you don’t know your history, you’re doomed to repeat it. I’d argue that history’s going to repeat itself regardless of what you know, but knowing one’s history helps you remember that 1) people have been peopling since people began, 2) your grandparents maybe really did have it worse, 3) sh*t happens and in massive quantities and, 4) regardless, the world keeps spinning and so should you.
